A list of lists
I’ve mentioned before that I’m a list maker, and this week has been filled with them … work-related to do lists as we wrap up copy for our January issue, lists of Birmingham Box Set blog entries to write, mental lists of clothes to pack for my rapidly approaching (and first ever!) ski trip, Christmas parties to attend after I return from Colorado, Christmas parties I’m missing while in Colorado, books to pack for Colorado (I’m only bringing six. I think that’s reasonable!) …
(And now, a list of lists.)
But in all of this list making, I haven’t had time to compose the lists I really wish I was working on: weekend playlists! My list of iTunes playlists is constantly growing; I think the most recent addition is a collection I titled “Playing Games,” selected as background music for a night of board games with friends.
If I weren’t seven hours from waking up and heading to BHM, I would work on songs for a first-time skier (“Note to Self: Don’t Die” by Ryan Adams leading off the pack!). The next goal? Songs for an SEC Champion. Paste magazine inspired that one with a little list one of their editors composed—in favor of a little university down south that shall remain unnamed. (Let’s just say that they wear the most hideous combination of orange and blue imaginable. And jean shorts.) Today they followed up with a reader-submitted list titled 10 Best Songs to Listen to While the Tide Spanks the Gators in the 2008 SEC Championship. (Let’s hope that’s the appropriate playlist come Saturday night!)
Sadly, I’m out of time and none of these lists will make it to my iPod. Just the same, I’d love to hear what you would include on your skiing and SEC football watching soundtracks.
